국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 베이비부머 세대가 의미 부여한 노년기에 대한 인식을 분석하여 노인복지 정책 및 실천 분야에 기여할 수 있는 논의와 제언 방안을 제시하는 데 있다. 이것을 위해 6명의 베이비부머 세대를 Giorgi의 기술적 현상학 연구방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 3가지의 본질적 의미 구조가 도출되었다. 먼저 ‘양가적 인식’이란 본질적 의미 구조에는 ‘닮고 싶지 않은 기성 노인 세대의 부정적 모습’, ‘기성 노인 세대의 존경할 만한 모습’이란 상황적 주제가 포함되었다. ‘회피와 수용 기제의 공존’에는 ‘어느샌가 성큼 다가온 노화’, ‘급변하는 세태와 세상에 유연한 생각과 적응이 필요한 세대’, ‘노부모 부양 부담’, ‘자녀 돌봄에 대한 끝나지 않은 부담감’이란 상황적 주제가 포함되었다. 마지막으로 ‘이상화된 기대 욕구’란 본질적 의미구조 안에는 ‘직업적 은퇴 이후에도 ‘일하는 인간’을 실현하고 싶은 욕구’, ‘노년기를 동반자와 함께 누리고 싶은 노년의 여유’, ‘자기계발과 도전에 대한 욕구’, ‘웰다잉에 대한 욕구’란 상황적 주제가 포함되었다. 본 연구는 위와 같은 연구 결과를 기반으로, 몇 가지 논의점과 제언 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the baby boomer generation subjectively perceives later life, in order to offer discussions and practical suggestions that may contribute to the field of geriatric welfare policy and practice. To achieve this, data were collected from six individuals belonging to the baby boomer generation and analyzed using Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological research method. The analysis revealed the following essential structures of meaning and their situational themes. First, within the essential structure of meaning termed ambivalent perceptions,” emerged situational themes such as “negative aspects of the older generation they do not wish to emulate” and “admirable qualities of the older generation worth modeling.” Second, within the essential structure of meaning described as “the coexistence of avoidance and acceptance mechanisms,” the situational themes included “the aging process that has quietly yet rapidly approached,” “a generation that needs flexible thinking and adaptation to a rapidly changing society,” “the burden of caring for aging parents,” and “the unending sense of responsibility for caring for their own children. Lastly, within the essential structure of meaning labeled “idealized aspirations,” the situational themes encompassed “the desire to realize themselves as ‘working beings’ even after occupational retirement,” “the wish to enjoy later life leisurely with a companion,” “the desire for self-development and new challenges,” and “the aspiration for a good death (well-dying).” Based on these findings, this study proposes several points of discussion and practical recommendations to inform policy and practice in the field of elder welfare.
