국문 초록

18세기 초엽에서 19세기 후반까지의 과거 급제자들의 유가(遊街) 기록을 대상으로 유가의 실행 양상과 그 비용을 검토한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 유가는 서울에서의 삼일유가(三日遊街)만을 지칭하지 않으며 거주지에서의 도문연(到門宴), 소분(掃墳), 고을 수령 예방(禮訪), 향교(鄕校) 알성(謁聖), 그리고 친·인척과 친지 방문 등을 포괄하며, 그 기간은 몇 개월에 걸치기도 했다. 2. 유가에서 상당한 금전적 수입이 있었으며, 그 수입보다 많은 지출이 있었다. 지출에서는 재인·광대의 보수가 가장 큰 비중을 차지했다. 3. 19세기에 재인·광대의 보수액은 후반기로 올수록 명목상으로 상승했으나 물가 상승으로 그 실질 가치는 하락하였다. 4. 19세기에 유가에서 연행한 재인·광대가 받은 보수는 시기와 개인에 따라 차이가 있지만 대략 3~8 두락(斗落)의 논을 살 수 있는 정도였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the process, income, and expenditures associated with Yuga , based on documents from the early 18th century to the late 19th century. It reached the following findings: 1. Yuga was not a mere three-day event. It began with a ceremony of presentation of a certificate in Seoul. Accompanied by Chaein and Kwangdae, a successful candidate would then celebrate in his hometown; visit his ancestors’ graves, the local governor, and relatives; and worship at a Confucian shrine. Yuga took several months to complete. 2. A successful candidate earned a large income from Yuga , but Yuga -associated expenditures were more than just income. A large portion went toward recompensing Chaein and Kwangdae . 3. In the 19th century, the nominal recompenses of Chaein and Kwangdae for Yuga performances rose, but real incomes fell as prices increased. 4. In the 19th century, with some variations, Chaein and Kwangdae could buy approximately 16-44 ares of rice fields through their recompenses for Yuga performances. * Yuga [유가 遊街]: a parade for a successful candidate at the civil service examination in the Choseon dynasty * Chaein [재인 才人]: a tightrope dancer * Kwangdae [광대 廣大]: a performer of dance, jest, and song
