선조-류성룡의 관계 패턴 - 모범형 팔로워의 행동법칙

국문 초록

본 연구에서는, Kelley(1992)의 팔로워십 모델을 활용하여 류성룡의 팔로워십을 분석하였다. Kelley의 모델은, 독립적/비판적 사고 vs. 의존적/무비판적사고 성향과 행동의 적극적 vs. 수동적 성향을 교차시켜 팔로워십을 다섯 가지로 구분하여 제시하고 있다. 즉 독립적/비판적 사고와 적극적 행동 성향을 보이는 ‘모범형 팔로워’, 독립적/비판적이지만 수동적 행동을 보이는 ‘소외형 팔로워’, 의존적/무비판적 사고와 적극적 행동의 ‘순응형 팔로워’, 의존적/무비판적이면서 행동도 수동적인 ‘수동적 팔로워’, 그리고 중간에 있는 ‘실무형’ 등으로 구분한다. 선조실록, 수정선조실록, 징비록을 기반으로 사례를 분석한 결과, 류성룡은 모범형 팔로워인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 ‘꼭 필요한 시점에 나서서 나라를 구했던 그의 행동’을 “류성룡 타이밍”이라고 정의하였다. 연구결과의함의, 연구의 한계, 향후의 연구 방향을 논하였다.

영문 초록

In the present study, w e have conducted an analysis of Ryu Seongryong’s followership by using Kelley’s(1992) followership typology. Kelley’s followership model suggests five types of followers, which juxtaposes binary dimensions such as ‘independent/critical thinking vs. dependent/uncritical thinking’ and ‘active vs. passive’ behavior. In this view, the ‘Effetive(or Exemplary) Follower’ demonstrates independent/critical thinking and active behavior w hereas the ‘Alienated’ exhibits independent/critical thinking and passive behavior. The ‘Conformist’ follower additionally relies on dependent/uncritical thinking and active behavior; contrarily, ‘Passive’ reveals dependent/uncritical thinking and passive behavior. The followers between these two models are called the ‘Pragmatist’. Based on the Veritable Records of King Seonjo, both original and revised, and the Jingbirok, we have analyzed Ryu Seongryong’s followership and reached the conclusion that he was the ideal ‘Effective Follower.’ By interpreting the far-reaching implications of the present study, we also offer suggestions for future research directions.
