Nexus Between Employee Green Behaviour and Environmental Performance of Hospitality Firms: The Role of Environmental Passion

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to investigates the nexus between employee green behaviour (EGB) and the environmental performance (EP) of hospitality firms, with a particular focus on the mediating role of environmental passion (EPass). Design/methodology/approach: The study followed the quantitative research design, and a self-administered ques-tionnaire was employed during the data collection process. Data was collected from three hundred twenty-five middle managers in hotels in a cross-sectional survey. The participants of this study were in the three-, four- and hive-star hotels. The data was analysed using SmartPLS 4.0.. Findings: The empirical findings of this study show that there is a significant positive relationship between EGB and the EP of hotels. The study further shows that the relationship between EGB and EP is partially mediated by EPass. Research limitations/implications: This study has certain limitations and proposes potential areas for future research. First, the cross-sectional design of the survey restricts the ability to establish clear cause-and-effect relationships. Conducting a longitudinal study could provide more robust insights by observing changes over time. Second, the survey focused solely on firms within a single industry and country, limiting the generalizability of the findings. Future studies could broaden the scope by including firms from diverse industries and different countries, thereby enhancing the applicability and relevance of the results across various contexts. Originality/value: This study explores the link between EGB and EP in the hospitality industry, focusing on the mediating role of EPass. It uniquely integrates these concepts, showing how passion for sustainability drives pro-en-vironmental actions, improving firm performance. The findings provide valuable insights for promoting sustainable practices and leadership.
