조신 설화의 영화 수용과 영화 <꿈>에 내재된 낙산사의 관음신앙과 의상의 ｢화엄일승법계도(華嚴一乘法界圖)｣

국문 초록

일연의 『삼국유사』｢낙산이대성 관음 정취 조신(洛山二大聖 觀音 正趣 調信)｣조(條)는 낙산사 창건기와 조신 설화를 수록하였다. 관음의 성지 낙산사는 의상대사가창건한 사찰이다. 조신 설화는 세 편의 소설과 세 편의 영화로 재탄생했다. 조신 설화는 김동인과 이광수에 의해 소설로, 신상옥, 배창호에 의해 영화 <꿈>으로 제작되었다. 현실에서 꿈을 경유하여 현실로 돌아오는 환몽구조와 달례와 연분을 맺고 싶은 조신의 서원과 각몽을 통한 깨달음은 모두 동일하다. 조신 설화는 작가의 상황에 따라 변형되었다, 그동안 연구는 설화가 어떻게 변형되었는가에 집중되었다면 본고는 왜 변형되었는가를 탐구하였다. 조신 설화가 변형 원인과 영화 <꿈>에 내재된 상구보리하회중생(上求菩提下化衆生)의 관음사상과 의상의 ｢화엄일승법계도(華嚴一乘法界 圖)｣의 교리적 실천을 논구한다. 이광수의 중편소설 『꿈』은 작가의 과거에 대한 회오와 속죄가 작품을 통해 투영되었다. 제작사 신필름의 대표인 신상옥이 제작한 <꿈>은 최은희와 애정사의 투영과 제작자로서 해외영화제 수상과 해외 시장 진출을 위한 대중성의 제고가 반영되어 도피장면 과잉과 영화적 재미를 가미했다. 신상옥의 영화가 현실-입몽-각몽(현실)이라는서사구조를 준수하였다면 배창호의 <꿈>은 꿈- 꿈 속 회상-환몽(현실)으로 서사적 차이를 보인다. 조신 설화는 이광수와 신상옥과 배창호의 작가적 서명으로 굴절되었지만, 기저에는 관음신앙이 흐르고 있다. 관음 신앙은 ‘관음보살에게 염원하면 중생의 고통을 치유해준다’는 관음사상을 통해 조신의 정신적 해탈로 재현된다. 조신은 꿈을 통해 달례와 연분 맺는 소원을 성취하고 제행무상의 깨달음을 얻고 번뇌에서 해탈한다. 조신은 관세음보살의 가피로 제행무상의 깨닫고(上求菩提) 달례와 정혼이라는 소원도 성취한다. 영화 <꿈>은 제행무상을 깨닫는 조신, 관객과 독자를 관음과 대승의 정신으로 교화한다. 또한 <꿈>을 통한 주인공의 각성은 ｢화엄일승법계도｣의 무량원겁즉일념(無量遠劫卽一念)과 일념즉시무량겁(一念卽是無量劫)의 세계로 수렴된다. <꿈>은 수많은 시간을 접거나 펼칠 수 있는 영화와 화엄세계의 유사성을 입증한다. 조신 설화는 수많은 각색을 통과했지만 관음신앙과 화엄사상의 기저는 동일하게 견지한다.

영문 초록

Ilyeon’s 『Memoralbilia of the Three Kingdoms』, “Naksan Two great religious leaders the Bodhisattva of enchantment Josin”, contains the history of the founding of Naksan Temple and the story of the courtiers. Naksan Temple, the sacred site of Avalokitesvara, is a temple founded by Master Uisang. The Josin legend has been reborn in three novels and three movies. The Josin tale was made into a novel by Kim Dong-in and Lee Kwang-soo, and into the movie by Shin Sang-ok and Bae Chang-ho. The dream structure of returning from reality to dream and back to reality, Josin’s vow to form a relationship with Dal-rye, and enlightenment through awakening are all the same. The Josin tale was transformed depending on the author’s situation. While the research so far has focused on how the tale was transformed, this paper explores why it was transformed. Discussing the cause of the transformation of the Josin narrative, the Avalokitesvara idea of Sangguborihahoejangsaeng(上求菩提下衆生) inherent in the movie , and the doctrinal practice of Uisang’s “Diagram of the Dharmadhātu.” Lee Kwang-soo’s novel reflects the author’s remorse and atonement for his past. , produced by Shin Sang-ok, the CEO of the production company Shin Film, reflects love story and the producer’s desire to win overseas film festivals and increase popularity for overseas exports. The story of Josin has been refracted by the authorial signatures of Lee Gwang-soo, Shin Sang-ok, and Bae Chang-ho, but the belief in Avalokitesvara flows at the base. The belief in Avalokitesvara is reproduced as the spiritual liberation of the court through the Avalokitesvara ideology, which states that ‘if you pray to Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, he will heal the pain of all living beings.’ Through his dream, Josin fulfills his wish to be in a relationship with Dal-rye, attains enl ightenment and is l iberated from suffering. With the cover of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the royal servant realizes the meaning of ancestral rites and fulfills his wish of getting married to Dalrye. The movie enlightens the courtiers who realize the impermanence of good deeds, and the audience and readers with the spirit of Avalokitesvara and Mahayana. In addition, the protagonist’s awakening through converges to the world of immeasurable aeons of one thought and immeasurable aeons of one thought in the Avatamsaka Precepts. proves the similarity between the movie and the world of Hwaeom, in which countless times can be folded or unfolded. Although the Josin legend has gone through numerous adaptations, it maintains the same roots of Avalokitesvara belief and Avatamsaka ideology.
