국문 초록

개화기 시기 서양의 근대문명의 유입은 주로 선교사들에 의해 이루어졌다. 선교사들은 ‘교육’과 ‘의료’라는 문명의 이로운 무기를 매개로 기독교 선교에 매진했으며, 이러한 일련의 과정 속에 자연스럽게 근대화라는 거대한 시스템이 작동되기 시작했다. 문화적으로 보면 민족주의는 하나의 단위로 범주화된 ‘민족’ 구성원에게 통합 논리를 제공하는 이데올로기라고 할 수 있다. 민족구성원을 하나의 단위로 설정하는 과정은 이에 포함되지 않는 타자를 배제하면서 동시에 ‘민족’의 정체성을 찾는 것에서 이루어졌다. 이러한 정체성의 모색은 한말, 일제시대, 해방 이후를 통해 역사·지리·문학·어학·종교 등의 연구를 통해 이루어졌다. 그런데 이러한 연구영역은 서구로부터 수용된 근대적 방법론을 기반으로 이루어졌다. 즉 한국의 근대 문화의 형성 및 변화과정은 서구 혹은 중국과 일본을 통해 수용된 근대와 밀접하게 연관되어 있었다. 이 중에서 종교와 출판이라는 카테고리 속에서 근대가 어떻게 성립되고 이들 종교와 출판의 역할은 무엇인지 살펴보겠다.

영문 초록

During the enlightenment period, the influx of modern Western civilizations was mainly carried out by missionaries. Missionaries devoted themselves to Christian missions through the beneficial weapons of civilization, education and medical, and in this series of processes, a huge system of modernization naturally began to work. Culturally, nationalism is an ideology that provides integrated logic to members of the ethnic categorized as a unit. The process of setting up ethnic members as a unit took place by excluding other people who were not included in it and at the same time finding the identity of the ethnic . The search for this identity was conducted through research on history, geography, literature, language, and religion through the Hanmal, Japanese colonial era, and post-liberation period. However, these areas of study were based on modern methodologies accepted by the West. In other words, the process of modern culture formation and change in Korea was closely related to modern times accepted through the West or China and Japan. Among them, we will look at how modernity is established in the category of religion and publication, and the role of these religions and publications.
